Jocky Scott’s new spin on caretaker manager role

Jocky Scott’s new spin on caretaker manager role

Former Dundee Football Club boss Jocky Scott is counting on sweeping away his rivals in his new career as a cleaning firm boss.

The former Scotland international has taken on various caretaker roles in his 40-year career in management and has been forced to clear out underperfoming footballing stars on more than one occasion.

The legend’s new job, however, may be the first time he has actually had to wield a brush in anger after the former striker-turned-sweeper agreed to take on a management role with a major cleaning firm.

The 65-year-old is set to head up office-cleaning company CSG’s operations in Tayside and Fife as the firm continues to expand its operations.

Jocky, who spent the past season coaching part-time with Aberdeen FC, is tasked with driving new growth for CSG in Dundee and the surrounding area.

“I’m delighted to be part of the CSG management team,” Jocky said of his new job. “We’re looking forward to building the firm up in the Dundee area and winning more business by delivering professional and reliable services to companies.”

CSG’s commercial director Calum Johnston said he was delighted after pulling off a major signing coup.

He said: “The appointment of Jocky Scott gives us a solid platform to build on as we look to expand the Dundee operation.

“We’re also looking to acquire businesses, particularly in the Central Belt as we continue to move forward.”

Jocky is embarking on his new career at the age of 65 after spending all his adult life in football.

He played for Chelsea’s youth team before joining Dundee in 1964, where he played for 11 years, won the League Cup and became a Dens Park legend.

From there, he played for Aberdeen and the Seattle Sounders before returning to finish his career at Dens Park.

He made the step up to management and began the first of his three spells at Dundee in 1986.

Two years later he joined Aberdeen where he and Alex Smith shared management duties.

In 2001 he struck out on his own again at Dunfermline Athletic before spells in charge of a range of clubs including Arbroath, Notts Country, Raith Rovers, Stirling Albion and two further spells as boss of Dundee, most recently as 2010. He was sacked when they topped the First Division.

He also spent time as caretaker manager of Hibs and Plymouth Argyle and had a spell as assistant manager of Danish side Viborg FF.
