Drivers slated for blocking emergency services after A92 crashes

Police at the scene on Tuesday night.

A driver caught up in this week’s A92 accidents on the Dundee to Arbroath dual carriageway has slammed the behaviour of selfish motorists who held up emergency services rushing to the scene.

Police have already blamed driver error for the chaos on Tuesday, which saw 16 vehicles involved in a series of shunts on the westbound carriageway between Arbroath and Salmondsmuir after an initial two-car crash just before 5pm.

Serious injury was avoided but police said motorists had failed to take account of conditions, including a blinding low sun.

One female motorist said she was staggered by driver behaviour as ambulance crews tried to get through to what was potentially a major incident.

“I was caught up in the chaos shortly after the accident occurred and was horrified by the number of drivers who paid no attention to the stationary line of vehicles,” she said.

“They continued to drive up the outside line, thereby blocking the road and making it much more difficult for the many emergency vehicles to get through to the accident site quickly.”

The angry driver continued: “Perhaps in the future they might be more aware of flashing lights and sirens in their rear and think about others before themselves.

“It was extremely disappointing when it was very obvious that something serious had happened.”
