A 70-year-old sheltered housing resident was fined at Arbroath Sheriff Court after a drunken assault on staff.

John Foy, who lives at the complex on Provost Johnston Road in Montrose, admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner there on December 29.

He further admitted shouting and swearing, repeatedly banging a door, grabbing a member of staff on the body and pointing a finger at him.

The court heard Foy had stayed at the complex for a number of years and was standing at the door of the kitchen area when the incident first flared up.

Depute fiscal Jill Drummond said staff asked him what he was looking for and he responded aggressively, saying, “I don’t have to tell you what I am looking for.”

The care workers informed Foy he was not allowed in the communal lounge, but at that point he grabbed one of the staff members.

The employee managed to get a hold of his arms and sat him down in a chair.

Foy became abusive, shouting, “I have had it with this place and their rules and regulations.”

Another staff member attempted to calm the pensioner down and escorted him back to his room however, a short time later an alarm was activated, indicating he had left.

Foy made his way to the office where he began banging on the door, shouting and swearing.

Speaking from the dock yesterday he said, “I am going to try to reduce my drinking and will hopefully be able to stop eventually.”

Sheriff Gilmour fined Foy £80.
