A historic Highland games and flower show will continue to fly the flag for Angus events, bucking the trend of cancellations elsewhere.
Cortachy Highland Games and Flower Show is scheduled for August 12 from 1pm, and organisers are confident the event will not go the way of those planned for Montrose, Stonehaven, Stirling and Newburgh.
Games committee secretary Shirley Smith said indications are good that the event will survive anything the weather has to throw at Cortachy that weekend.
”We’re optimistic about the chances,” she said. ”All the stalls and events are all ready to go and we know to plan for wetter weather.”
Activities will include children’s races, fancy-dress competitions, flower and industrial crafts shows and competitions, traditional heavy events, tug o’ war, Highland dancing, a piping competition, photographic competition, a dog show and a somewhat chaotic dog race.
The event’s climax is the famous duck race down the River South Esk and the games close with an auction of much of the produce exhibited in the main marquee.
A variety of stalls will be selling food such as Aberdeen Angus beef burgers and Visocchi’s ice cream. There will also be a bar.
