BMWs targeted in £5,000 Montrose car vandalism attack

BMWs targeted in £5,000 Montrose car vandalism attack

Vandals have caused £5,000 of damage to BMWs in Angus in what appears to have been a deliberate attack against owners of the luxury brand.

Three vehicles were hit in Montrose High Street. A black X5 had all four of its tyres slashed and the mirror of a black 3 Series was also damaged. A grey BMW 325i, parked at the rear of properties in High Street and accessed via Basin View, also had four tyres damaged and the paintwork scratched.

All the incidents took place some time between 7pm on Friday and 8am on Saturday.

Montrose councillor Paul Valentine said the actions of the vandals were ”absolutely unacceptable” and called for anyone who may have witnessed the crimes to get in touch with the police.

”It doesn’t matter what kind of car it is, at the end of the day it is somebody’s property that is being damaged,” he said. ”Anyone who saw this happening should report it immediately. It might not be their property this time but if there are people in the streets vandalising things to this extent then it must be stopped.”

Isabelle Phillips, Scottish chairperson of the BMW Car Club, said it was unusual to hear about an act of vandalism where only one make of car had been targeted.

”I am currently not aware of there being any issues of BMWs being specifically targeted by vandals and I had not heard about this recent incident which must have been very distressing for the owners,” she said.

A police spokeswoman said: ”Anyone who was in the area and who saw or heard anything suspicious should call 0300 111 2222 or speak to any officer.”

Meanwhile, officers in Carnoustie are investigating a break-in at Cash 4 Clothes in Dundee Street some time between 5pm on Monday and 10.20am on Tuesday.

Thieves made off with a three-figure sum of money, a BT Router and a black Eagle Eyes video recorder.
