Edzell residents had the chance to view plans for a 90-hectare sand and gravel quarry that will soon be submitted to Angus Council.
The site lies to the south-east of Edzell Wood and Arbroath applicants D. Geddes Contractors have proposed working the site over 35 years to provide “a continuity of employment and supply of material.”
It is also seen as a potential replacement for the current operation at Stannochy near Brechin.
Yesterday, those living in the area surrounding the proposed development had the chance to speak with representatives of the company at an open day in Inglis Memorial Hall on the village’s High Street.
They also had a chance to view maps of the quarry and take a virtual tour of what it is likely to look like.
Among the concerns aired were traffic problems and the potential impact on road surfaces.
However, local man Barrie Calder admitted that on balance the quarry would likely be a positive thing for the area.
He said, “We were mainly worried about the traffic and that was why we came along, but I think those problems will be addressed.
“And in these times anything that brings new employment can only be a good thing.”
