An 82-year-old man has died following a road accident in Inverbervie on Wednesday.
The collision happened at around 3.15pm when the man, today named as local resident James Lyall, was struck by a black Audi A3.
The incident happened outside Bervie Church as children were being let out of Bervie School.
Police and ambulance units attended and Mr Lyall was conveyed by ambulance under police escort to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he later died.
Inspector Ian Kirkwood, of the road policing department, said: “Following the collision, a team of officers were deployed in Inverbervie and a number of witnesses were spoken to.
“I would ask for anyone who witnessed the collision and left without providing their details to contact us on 101 and a police officer will contact them to see if they have any information which could be of assistance to us.
“As a result of the collision the A92 through Inverbervie was closed for around five hours whilst collision investigation work was carried out.
“I realise that this caused traffic delays and am grateful to motorists for their patience.”
