Arbroath man’s behaviour forced partner to flee house in pyjamas

A man followed his partner in a car after she ran out of their home wearing only her pyjamas, Forfar Sheriff Court heard on Saturday.

Darran George Ingram, 24, of Almerie Close, Arbroath, admitted following her from their home address to Weavers Close in Arbroath, on January 1.

He also admitted repeatedly kicking the front door at an address at Weavers Close, attempting to gain entry and shouting and swearing.

Fiscal depute Isma Mukhtar said Ingram’s girlfriend of two years decided to leave their house following an argument.

“At 10pm the argument escalated and the accused began to shout and swear at the complainer,” she said.

“The complainer went to the front door to get the house keys. She then put her trainers on so she could leave the house as she was afraid of the accused’s behaviour.

“The complainer told the accused that she was going to spend the night at her sister’s house to avoid further confrontation. He insisted that she give back the house key but she refused.

“She then ran out of the house wearing just her pyjamas and trainers.”

Ms Mukhtar said the woman had intended to go to the police when she realised that she was being followed by Ingram.

“When she realised it was the accused in his car, she ran to the street where her sister resides, the fiscal depute continued.

“The complainer’s sister found her crying and visibly distressed.”

Ms Mukhtar went on: “The accused began to repeatedly kick the door. The sister told him to leave but he then began to shout at the sister. The police were called.”

Sheriff Pino Di Emidio told Ingram he would call for background reports given the “sustained nature of the incident”.

He deferred sentence until February 5.
