‘Extremely disappointing’ Blue Seaway park in Monifieth hit by vandals yet again

The tower has been deemed unsafe after the vandals burned away significant sections of the wooden structure.

Children in Monifieth face another spell without one of their favourite pieces of play equipment after vandals again targeted the Blue Seaway Park in Monifieth.

The wooden tower slide was burned some time over the weekend and is closed until Angus Council can arrange repairs.

A spokesman said: “It is closed until the council can get prices for new parts and review how the repairs will be carried out.

“It is extremely disappointing and disheartening to see vandalism at any location, but more so at a playpark which is used by children and young people.

“This is a hugely popular facility which is enjoyed by thousands of people throughout the year and the council has had to cordon off the areas until remedial repairs have been carried out.”

The park is well away from the main housing areas in the town and has been hit by vandals on numerous occasions.

More than £1,000 of damage was caused to the same climbing frame when it was attacked by firebugs in 2012.

The council spokesman added: “The more money we require to spend on repairing vandalism, the less we have to spend elsewhere.

“We need to work as a community to eliminate this anti-social behaviour and we ask that anyone witnessing vandalism to immediately contact the police.”

Police Scotland can be contacted on 101.
