A 38-year-old taxi driver was spared his licence by an Angus sheriff.
Anthony Gallacher drove at excess speed outside Tesco in Western Road, Montrose, on August 1 in the vicinity of a number of pedestrians.
Arbroath Sheriff Court heard Gallacher also swerved into the path of another vehicle, causing the driver to take evasive action to prevent a collision.
Depute fiscal Hazel Anderson said Gallacher was witnessed by an off-duty police officer and his wife. She said he saw Gallacher travelling at high speed on to the service road past a bus stop with numerous pedestrians.
Ms Anderson said he continued to drive too fast and appeared to lose control and crossed on to the opposite carriageway. She said the manoeuvre caused the driver to brake suddenly to avoid a collision.
When questioned by police, Gallacher said: “Everyone makes mistakes you just have to get on with it.”
Defence agent Nick Markowski said his client had three points on his licence and was fearful of the implications of a ban. Mr Markowski said Gallacher was a part-time taxi driver and also needed his licence to ferry his four children around.
He said his client would apologise to the court for his actions. Sheriff Gregor Murray imposed seven penalty points and fined him £200 on Tuesday.
