Executive committee chairwoman Sheena Guthrie said she is sure this year’s festival will be enjoyed by audiences and participants. The festival began with pupils from across the county competing in snare drum, timpani, tuned percussion and drumkit sessions. The first honours mark was scooped by George Cowan from Arbroath, who scored 90 for a total of 178 in the Scottish songs category. Percussionist Glynn Forrest from Glasgow stepped in to adjudicate at the last minute after an injury to Pamella Dow. Honorary secretary Muriel Steven said: “We can’t thank Glynn enough for stepping into Pam’s shoes. “He’s been extremely impressed by the standard on show.” The Courier will provide extensive pictorial and results coverage of this week’s festival. Today’s events feature piano and vocal classes. If you would like to buy a copy of any of these photos, email shop@dcthomson.co.uk or phone 0800 318846. gstrachan@thecourier.co.uk
