A man who fell “into the deep end” has admitted a string of charges including bombarding one ex-girlfriend with phone and text messages and threatening to knife another.
Barry Hendry, of The Bungalow, North Auchry Farm Cottage, Auchterhouse, will be sentenced on July 17 after appearing from custody at Forfar Sheriff Court yesterday following his remand on a number of matters since March 10.
Hendry, 22, admitted an indictment alleging that he caused fear and alarm to a woman by repeatedly texting, calling and sending Facebook messages to her on December 9 and 10 last year.
He also admitted assaulting a woman on March 8 at a house on Dundee’s South Road by punching her and presenting a knife at her, assaulting a man by punching him on the body and hitting him on the head with a brick, and assaulting another man by punching him.
Depute fiscal Hazel Anderson said the first incident involved a 21-year-old ex-girlfriend of the accused, who had told him the relationship was over.
Phone records showed he had made 17 calls to the woman in just one minute around midnight.
He was taken to hospital after concerns were raised about his welfare but when released he immediately sent a Facebook message and then continued with what the fiscal described as a “barrage” of calls and messages.
The fiscal added: “She didn’t want to get him into trouble, she just wanted it to stop because it was overwhelming her.”
Police were called and while they were with the victim Hendry called her a dozen more times.
The court heard the March incident involved a woman with whom the accused had been in a new relationship for around six weeks.
Hendry and the other complainers had gone to a house where the occupier was out and they started drinking.
When the householder returned home an argument broke out and Hendry became agitated and aggressive.
He then went into the kitchen and picked up a knife before walking out the door, before raising it above his head and pointing it at his girlfriend.
There was a tussle and the accused then struck one of the men, his cousin, on the face with a brick.
Hendry then said: “I have a knife and I will use it”, before his girlfriend tried to get it from him, receiving a minor cut to her hand in the process.
“He apologised, she approached him to give him a cuddle and felt the brick at the back of his trousers, which appeared to anger him and at that stage he punched her in the face.”
Defence solicitor Jim Laverty said his client had not been previously involved with the authorities to any great extent, but he encountered mental health difficulties and sought solace in alcohol.
Sentence was deferred until July 17 for reports and bail was granted.
