Protesting pensioners are poised to take their campaign back to the doorstep of Angus Council.
Sheltered housing wardens and community lounges are thought to be under threat as services could move in line with the controversial self-directed support model.
The consultations have caused an outcry among families, with the reaction described as “extremely hostile”, while residents of one complex were told demand for sheltered housing had gone down.
Last month OAPs from across the county protested in Forfar and implored a meeting of the full Angus Council not to make cuts.
Residents have agreed to protest again on Thursday December 10 following a meeting of five different sheltered housing complexes.
Dave Coull, 74, who lives in Inglis Court in Edzell, said the only thing that would stop them would be really bad weather.
He said: “Angus Against Cuts supports the sheltered housing residents, and calls for support for this protest, as well as for raising the impact of cuts on other sections of the community.
“A meeting of folk from five different sheltered housing complexes in Angus, decided that, unless the weather is so bad we’re all snowed up, there should be a protest outside the next full meeting of Angus Council.”
Tom Fowler, 70, who lives with his wife in sheltered housing in Letham, said: “We are asking anyone who is physically capable to turn up to the Town and County Buildings at 1.30pm.
“There was a story brought to us at the last meeting, where another local authority took away wardens, and within a few days there had been a robbery and abuse at the sheltered housing complex.
“This is the thin end of the wedge as far as we are concerned.
“The main point that has come across at any of our meetings is that residents want to keep their wardens.”
Self-directed support has been introduced to give people “more choice and control over their support provision, so people can get the support they need at home, rather than having to move to get it”, says Angus Council.
Council leader Iain Gaul has reinforced the message that no decisions have been taken as the authority carries out a broad review of care and support services, and pledged that the views of residents will be taken into account.
