Fed-up Emma wants police to help her stand up to louts

A Kirriemuir woman has called for support from the police after suffering years of anti-social behaviour.

Lager louts, vandals and drug users have all wound up outside Emma MacDonald’s door on Manse Close, and the 24-year-old has had enough.

From pub patrons urinating on her doorstep to addicts disposing of drug-taking paraphernalia in her bin, Ms MacDonald claims to have seen it all in the five years she has stayed at her property.

She is now demanding police take action against the culprits.

Her flat sits behind busy Bank Street and is one of only two properties in the secluded close.

“For the near five years I have lived here, I have had to put up with patrons of nearby pubs proceeding to the lane where my front door is to empty their bladder and stomach on my doorstep,” said Emma, who works on Bank Street.

“I used to spend every weekend pouring down bottles of bleach and kettles of boiling water to wash the urine and the vomit away, but it makes me so angry that I can no longer do this. When I first moved in I had to put a chain and padlock on my wheelie bin as local addicts were disposing of drug paraphernalia in my bin.

“Last August I had to contact the police to report two individuals snorting lines of cocaine off the lid of my wheelie bin, which is directly outside my front door.

“Despite watching the whole incident through the peephole on my front door and being able to give the police a highly detailed description of the two people involved, the police did not manage to trace either of these two people.

“About a month ago, my car was targeted by someone who kicked the bonnet causing £480 of damage, which I cannot afford to repair, and yesterday I stepped out of my front door into a huge pile of dog faeces.”

Ms MacDonald said she has reported each of the incidents to the police and Angus Council. She wants CCTV equipment installed to cover the area.

People have encouraged her to leave the property and find somewhere new but she is standing strong, believing she should not be forced to leave because of other people.

She added: “I live in a privately rented flat as I do not qualify for a council house. I live above a butchers and adjacent to a tearoom which means, once they close around 5pm, I’m here on my own.

“This means I am the only person able to report things to the police.

“When I tell people what goes on literally on my doorstep they look at me like I have two heads as if to ask: why has nothing been done about any of this’

“Unfortunately, their guess is as good as mine. I pay my council tax like everyone else and I have worked for my entire adult life, struggling to make ends meet every single month despite the fact that I would be far better off if I sat on the dole and this is what I get back in return?”

Police confirmed the matter is under investigation.
