Moves are under way to turn an empty Angus swimming pool into a picture house, similar to Dundee Contemporary Arts.
A local architect has conducted a feasibility study into giving the former Montrose pool in the Mall new purpose.
David Paton (29) has captured around 1,900 supporters on Facebook and a meeting is anticipated to “drum-up support”.
Mr Paton, an employee of John D. Crawford Architectural Services, said: “It has been a pipe- dream for a while and I’ve looked into different buildings which would be suitable.
“I went with four friends to the cinema recently and we had to go to Aberdeen, which cost us £20 each on the train to get there.
“I’ve always liked the DCA in Dundee, and think it’s a superb use of space. Something on a smaller scale between Dundee and Aberdeen would be a really good idea.”
Mr Paton estimates this would be their nearest cinema for 50,000 people, some of whom have to travel more than 30 miles to Aberdeen or Dundee to see the latest blockbusters.
