A major part of a £21 million Angus estate with its roots stretching back into the 12th century has gone up for sale.
Over 477 acres of the Panmure Estate by Carnoustie has gone on the market with a total asking price of £2.1 million.
The major part of the original policies of the 13,500-acre estate which is up for sale comprises the twin baronial gate lodges, the site of the original mansion house and the stables block along with extensive woodlands and arable land.
It is available to be bought as a whole or in up to 10 lots with development opportunities.
The former stables and service block are of significant architectural and historical value for several reasons. They are the only remaining sections of Panmure House, a building which had great architectural and historical interest both for its long association with the Maule Family and because of the architects, Mylne, Bruce and Bryce who contributed to its fabric and setting.
The joint selling agents are Edinburgh-based Rettie and Co and John Clegg and Co, and the lots are available to view online (link).
The lands at Panmure were granted to the Norman family of De Valoniis in the 12th century. The De Valoniis and Maules, another Norman family, were united by marriage early the following century.
Panmure remained in the ownership of 20 generations of Maules until late in the 18th century. Panmure estate was put on the market for the fourth time in its 800-year history in 2001 and sold for around £21 million.
