A sheriff has sent a Forfar teenager to custody after a householder encountered him reaching into his home to steal a bottle of vodka.
Jamie Cormie was spotted by the man after residents were alerted by the sound of breaking glass.
Depute fiscal Hannah Kennedy told the town’s sheriff court the man went to investigate and saw the 18-year-old’s legs protruding from the bedroom window.
Cormie climbed out with a bottle of vodka and made off, followed by the witness, who was unable to catch him.
A broken bottle of vodka was then discovered beside the bin Cormie had climbed on to get into the house, and the accused was found by police a short time later.
Cormie (18), of Threewells Drive, who pleaded guilty to stealing the bottles from a house in Taranty Road, Forfar, and breaching a community service order, was given a four-month sentence in a young offenders’ institution.
”He was on two deferred sentences and a community service order at the time of this housebreaking,” said Sheriff Kevin Veal.
