Dundee’s council housing stock is set to benefit from a multi-million pound investment boost.
A report to the policy and resources committee next Monday seeks approval for capital budgets for the next five years.
There are plans to spend almost £30 million in the next financial year in a total capital programme over five years costing £46 million.
Housing convener Jimmy Black said, “There have already been significant improvements in council houses as a result of our legal obligation of meeting the Scottish Housing Quality Standard by 2015.
“During the next financial year alone we plan to spend almost £30 million … This is a huge amount … but it reflects our commitment to investing in our stock so that tenants can benefit from improved homes.
“More than 8600 houses will be upgraded over the next five years in a total capital programme of £46 million.
“As well as kitchens and bathrooms, the improvements will include boiler replacement, new roofs and roughcasting, new electrics, security doors and external insulation and cavity fill to help tenants with heating bills.
“We are also increasing the supply of council houses by building new homes, built to the highest levels of energy efficiency and including fully-adapted ones to try to meet a need for more of them.”
