A ”frail” child is celebrating her 100th birthday today without the need of modern medicine.
Betty Davidson, from Dundee, doesn’t take any pills or medication and is fit enough to live independently, despite keeping poor health as a child.
On Wednesday, she was guest of honour at Dundee Floral Art Club’s meeting in the Queen’s Hotel. She has been a member of the club for nearly 50 years longer than anyone else.
Mrs Davidson still attends Dundee Congregational Church every Sunday and is a member of the guild there.
It was at church that she met her husband David. They celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary in June.
Mrs Davidson said her only regret is that David, who is four years younger, requires constant care and has lived in a care home for the last three years.
She regularly takes a taxi to visit him at South Grange.
She said: ”I have got a lovely boy in the home. He is the only one for me always has been and always will be.”
Mrs Davidson plans to visit her husband today. Later in the week he will join their extended family to celebrate his wife’s landmark birthday with a special lunch.
Mrs Davidson was born and brought up in Dundee, the youngest of 11 children. She attended school in Downfield and went on to work in Henry Adams drapery shop, ending up as a buyer.
She has two children, Gloria and David, as well as four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
