A Dundee taxi firm has been given permission to install a 30-metre radio mast at its Balgray Place offices.
The application for the mast was lodged by Tele Taxis but it will be shared by other operators in the city.
The taxi firms have been forced to make alternative arrangements to stay on the air after being asked to remove their aerials from the Derby Street multis by the end of the year as the tower blocks are scheduled for demolition.
”To maintain an uninterrupted service to the public it is essential that an alternative site for the equipment is established,” RDA Architects explained in a statement supporting the application.
”Radio equipment of the type used relies essentially on ‘line of sight,’ therefore the equipment must be located at high elevation relative to the general topography of the area.”
The mast will be screened at pavement level by a 2.8-metre masonry wall and will be protected at ground level by a security fence.
