Speeding drivers make Dock Street new target of Tayside Safety Camera Partnership

Around 1,400 drivers are breaking the speed limit on a busy Dundee road every day.

Monitoring of Dock Street/East Dock Street has found that at least 6% of the average 23,000 vehicles using the road daily are travelling at more than 55mph well above the 40mph limit.

From November 1, the dual carriageway will be covered by mobile speed cameras in an attempt to persuade drivers to curb their speed.

Manager of the Tayside Safety Camera Partnership (TSPC) Arron Duncan said: ”We have identified a high percentage of vehicles of all classes being driven at speeds well in excess of the limit on this road, including speeds over 80mph and 90mph, which shows people having no thought for others by putting themselves and other road users at risk.

”These high speeds, added to the high volume of traffic, increases the likelihood of further incidents and through targeted enforcement the aim is to encourage drivers to reduce their speed and, in doing so, help to reduce the number of collisions and casualties.”

The TSPC will be regularly stationing its mobile cameras at two sites along the route, joining with existing checks on Greendykes Road and Kingsway East, to cover the trunk road network from the city centre to the north and east of the city.

Safety camera signs have been installed on Dock Street by BEAR Scotland to warn motorists that the speed limit will be enforced.
