Teenagers left victim with footprints on his face after Dundee attack

A teenage trio stamped so hard on a man’s head they left footprints in his face after a drug deal went wrong.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard how the vicious assault left the 22-year-old victim with visible footprints on his face and requiring hospital treatment.

Scott Wheeler and Warren Valentine, both 19, admitted their role in the assault which the complainer said was completely unprovoked.

The court heard the victim was a friend of Valentine who had arranged to meet him on the High Street to secure cannabis, however all three accused turned up, along with Wheeler’s girlfriend.

Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson told the court: “They walked through the town together and ended up at Rose Street, a side street of the Hilltown.

“Wheeler punched him in the head repeatedly from behind and took him by surprise. A struggle then ensued between Valentine and the complainer with them both falling to the ground.

“While on the ground the complainer was punched by Wheeler again.

“When he managed to sit up he was kicked at least twice in the head by Valentine.”

Dylan Reid, also 19, stole the victim’s phone and later sold it for £90, Dundee Sheriff Court heard.

Ms Robertson told how the victim had walked to a shop where the alarm was raised and he was taken to hospital.

She added: “The complainer had numerous footprints on his face.”

Defence solicitor Paul Parker Smith told the court: “This was essentially a drug deal gone wrong which resulted in the dispute.”

He added that Wheeler’s position was that the victim had been going to take them to a place where they could buy drugs, but a dispute broke out over money.

Wheeler, of Fullarton Street, and Valentine, of Spey Drive, pleaded guilty to assault by repeatedly punching their victim on the head, kicking him and stamping on him on Rose Lane on April 29.

Reid, of St Clement Terrace, admitted stealing the man’s phone during the attack, while he was on bail.

Sheriff Tom Hughes deferred sentence for reports.
