Rain not putting a dampener on Dundee’s Christmas Light Night

Dundee City Council say tonight’s Christmas Light Night will go ahead as planned despite the miserable weather.

Much of the east coast of Scotland has been subjected to heavy rain for much of the day and the downpour is forecast to continue over the course of the afternoon.

Thousands of people are expected in Dundee city centre for tonight’s event, which will see the Christmas lights switched on for the first time as well as a fireworks display.

But the incessant rain has led to fears the event may have to be cancelled.

However, a spokeswoman for Dundee City Council that not only will the event go ahead as planned, the rain may even have stopped by the time the festivities get underway.

She said: “The rain is due to stop around 5pm and then start again around midnight so it should work out perfectly for us.”

Tonight’s event will feature a torchlight procession, a performance by Dundee Dance Studio and a Nativity play.

And students at Duncan of Jordanstone have developed an app that will allow them to project pictures of members of the crowd onto the walls of the City Square.
