The partnership in charge of Tayside’s transport plans is pushing for an hourly service running through Broughty Ferry station to Glasgow.
A new rail franchise will take over the ScotRailnetwork next year, covering the country’s rail network.
And transport partnership Tactran has spoken to all five of the shortlisted bidders, emphasising the need for an improved level of service through stations including Broughty Ferry, as well as Carnoustie and Monifieth.
Broughty Ferry station has undergone a £650,000 redevelopment, with work including moving the signal box from the north to south platforms and refurbishing the underpass.
The service level at the station was last upped in 2012, but now moves could be made to create an hourly service passing through from Arbroath to Glasgow.
In his most recent director’s report, Tactran’s Eric Guthrie said their aim was to progress towards a “semi-fast” service between Arbroath and Glasgow.
