Almost all schools across Tayside, Fife and east central Scotland are meeting the target of delivering two hours, or two periods, of physical education each week to pupils, according to new statistics.
Dundee, Fife, Clackmannanshire and Falkirk councils all recorded a 100% success rate for their schools. Perth and Kinross Council achieved 99% and Stirling 98%.
The only local authority where the standard fell was Angus, which dropped from 100% last year to 94% this year. The Scottish average was 96%.
Cabinet Secretary for Sport Shona Robison said: “Today’s figures highlight the excellent progress that is being made across Scottish schools.”
Menwhile a record number of Scottish school leavers have continued their education or found a job.
Official figures show 90% of the 52,000 pupils whose classroom learning came to an end last year had gone on to a positive destination by this March.
That was up 0.5% on the previous year. Higher education was the most popular choice (36.3%) followed by employment (24.6%) and further education (24.5%).
