Dementia sufferers’ Steeple Church concert a ‘wonderful’ mix of fun and emotion
ByThe Courier Reporter
Dementia suffers and their carers were given a standing ovation when they took to the stage for a concert at Dundee’s Steeple Church.
The performance was the grand finale of a 10-week-long project between Scottish Opera and Alzheimer Scotland.
This is the second year the project has been run in Scotland and Gail Bon of Scottish Opera said: “It went really well and it was quite emotional.
“Given the nature of dementia often people are quite surprised by the performance.
“It is very much about the whole experience and everything that has happened in the 10-week workshops. It is about breaking down barriers.
“People get to work with professional musicians, opera singers and directors.”
Director Kate Black said: “This performance was a wonderful culmination of three years of partnership between Scottish Opera and Alzheimer Scotland.
“All the participants, both those with Alzheimers and their carers, worked really heard to create the show, and we’ve also had a lot of fun along the way.”
