Commonwealth Games events to bring ‘a real festival atmosphere’ to Dundee

Celebrations when the Queens Baton Relay was in Dundee included a ceilidh outside the Caird Hall.
Dundee will play host to a variety of events showcasing the Commonwealth Games this month.
Various community events will take place in City Square and beyond, including outdoor screenings of the games, music and dance, including a ceilidh.
There will also be a chance to have a go at Commonwealth sports during a series of come-and-try sessions.
Top athletes will also mingle with the crowds as they look forward to the shooting event at the Barry Buddon Centre, Carnoustie, between July 25 and 29.
Willie Sawers, deputy leader of the city council, hopes the events will be as well supported as the Queen’s Baton Relay in June.
He said: “There are a number of activities available in Dundee throughout the Commonwealth Games. There will be a real festival atmosphere in the City Square.
“It will be a chance for people to come together and watch the events on the big screen. The fact the Commonwealth Games are being held in Scotland is very significant.
“I also think the competitors for the shooting event staying in Dundee will have a knock-on positive impact.”
