Dundee Urban Orchards project planted their last orchard on Saturday at Grays Lane Community Garden in Lochee.
The group began in March 2013 as an art and horticulture project working across the city.
It aims to raise awareness of food sustainability by planting orchards and running art workshops exploring orchard biodiversity and other social and environmental themes.
This weekend they fufilled their aim of planting 24 orchards across the city. The orchards act as a network for community and cultural organisations who are committed to raising awareness of food sustainability and related social and environmental concerns.
The project is run by Jonathan Baxter and Sarah Gittins.
Jonathan, an artist, said: “We’re delighted to have planted our 24th orchard with the Lochee Community Gardeners group.
“It’s taken over two years from first identifying the site to planting the orchard . . . Working with the Council to realise this project has also been a good example of what councils can do to smooth the way in facilitating community growing initiatives in Dundee.”
He said: “Now that we’ve planted our 24th orchard, DUO will start making preparations for an Orchard City Festival in October.
“We’ll be working with various partners, including the Scottish Orchards Collective and Tay Landscape Partnership, to celebrate Dundee as Europe’s first Orchard City.”
