Dundee author to introduce Teckle to Glasgow

Dundee author Grant Hill will take to the stage at Glasgow’s prestigious Aye Write festival to discuss his novel Clubbed to Death and the creation of publishers Teckle Books.

The event at Glasgow’s Mitchell Library takes place on April 21 and will be chaired by broadcaster and writer Hardeep Singh Kohli.

Grant will be appearing alongside fellow first-time novelist David F Ross, who will be talking about his book The Last Days of Disco.

Clubbed to Death, published by Teckle Books, was described by Neil Forsyth, creator of the Bob Servant books and TV series, as “a very funny, no-holds-barred romp into the Dundonian badlands in the company of strong characters”.

Grant said, “I am really looking forward to the Aye Write! event and spreading the Teckle mission to Glasgow.

“Clubbed to Death was originally conceived as a sitcom and the idea came from when I was putting on nights at a local nightclub. The final version bears absolutely no relation to what went on at the club, something I am legally obliged to point out each time I talk about the book.”

Grant Hill was born in Dundee in 1979 and has worked in journalism and public relations.

Despite his lack of technical skills as a DJ, he started his own club night Teckle – Dundonian slang for excellent – in 2007.

He then used the name Teckle to set up his own publishing company, Teckle Books.

Its first book, The Tartan Special One by Barry Phillips, was published in 2013.

Two books, Journeyman: Football From The Inside by David Farrell and an anthology of new writing, will be released by the company this year, with a further five titles planned for 2016.

Tickets for ‘Nightclub debuts’ with Grant Hill and David F Ross cost £9 and will be available from Saturday March 21 here.
