A man was seriously assaulted twice in a busy Dundee street in broad daylight.

The 25-year-old victim was assaulted twice by two men in quick succession near to the Haldane shops on Monday.

The man was taken to Ninewells Hospital where he had several stitches applied to head injuries before being released.

Police Scotland is now appealing for witnesses who were in the area at the time to come forward.

A spokesman said: “He had been in Haldane Avenue, near to the Haldane shops at about 1.20pm when he was approached by a man who exchanged words with him and then assaulted him.

“The attacker is described as being in his 20s, five feet seven inches tall, stocky, with a round face and short dark hair. At the time he wore a purple Adidas hooded top. After the attack, he walked off towards Kirkton Place.

“His victim walked a short distance when, moments later, he was approached by another man in Haldane Crescent. He again spoke briefly to him before assaulting him and walking off.

“He is aged in his 40s, five feet four inches tall, stocky, with a round face. He wore a dark Adidas hooded top with a red motif on the back, dark Adidas bottoms and a pair of Nike Air Max trainers.

“There were numerous people in the area at the time the assaults took place, including several youths. Detective officers want to speak to anyone who was there at the time as they may have information that could assist enquiries.”

Police officers have been carrying out forensic examination at the scene and house to house enquiries.

An additional police presence is continuing in the area today as the investigation continues in an effort to gather more information and to provide reassurance to the community.

Anyone who can assist should call Police Scotland on 101 or speak to any officer. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
