A woman who won a £148 million lottery jackpot has moved back to Tayside after her marriage ended.

Gillian Bayford, 41, has bought a £600,000, five-bedroom house at Kirkton of Auchterhouse near Dundee.

She and her husband Adrian recently announced they were divorcing after nine years of marriage, blaming the stress of coping with their sudden wealth and change in lifestyle following their win.

Mrs Bayford, who had been a healthcare worker at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, is originally from Kirkcaldy and was raised in Carnoustie where her parents still live and educated in Dundee.

The couple, who have two children, had been living in a £6 million mansion on a 200-acre estate in Haverhill, Suffolk.

Mr Bayford bought the winning £2 ticket for the EuroMillions draw in August 2012. The jackpot was the second biggest lottery win and instantly put them on the list of the wealthiest people in the UK.

Last month a spokesman for Mrs Bayford said: “Gillian Bayford confirms that her marriage to Adrian has broken down irretrievably and they have separated.”

Her estranged husband said: “When you win the lottery it’s so stressful.”

Mrs Bayford, who is understood to be in a new relationship with a former sales manager at a Dundee car dealership whom she met while buying cars for her family, confirmed she had “moved home” but declined to comment further.

Mr Bayford’s friend and former business partner Richard Hudspith confirmed that he was aware that his estranged wife was in a relationship and had a new home in Tayside.

Other EuroMillions winners have also seen their marriages fail.

Dave and Angela Dawes recently revealed their split two years after winning £101m and Les and Samantha Scadding, who won £45.5m in 2009, have divorced.
