A bodybuilder from Dundee has revealed his bodybuilding father helped inspire him to a podium finish at a world bodybuilding competition.
Grant Coutts, 45, admits “he is still on cloud nine” following his third-place success at the NABBA Mr Universe event held in Southport last week.
Tenacious Grant shown in the video above competing in 2012 qualified for the international contest, designed to find the world’s best amateur bodybuilders, after winning his section at the Scottish championships before coming third at the UK finals.
Growing up in Kirkton, the father of three didn’t have to look far for inspiration with his dad, Samuel, winning the title of Mr Eastern Scotland in 1953.
The down-to-earth fitness fanatic told The Courier of the joy of matching his dad’s success, but also of the pain of recognising that Samuel, who now suffers from Alzheimer’s, will never be able to fully appreciate his son’s achievement.
Grant, a ceramic tile fixer, said: “I couldn’t believe it when they read my name out in Southport. I was close to tears on stage.”
