A plan to spend £3 million on a new city council building could be scrapped.
Councillors will hear on Monday that offices in City Square could be redeveloped for a third of the cost to house environment department staff.
Land to the south of Marchbanks recycling centre, which closed in March, had been considered as a possible site for the proposed development.
Environment convener Craig Melville said: “Refurbishing the offices in City Square is the most cost-effective way of providing a long-planned headquarters building for the environment department.
“This of course means there will be no need to build a new headquarters from scratch, which as well as saving money will also be less disruptive for staff and service delivery.”
A report recommends alterations to part of the east wing of the council’s buildings around the square.
Bill Campbell, depute convener of the city development committee, said: “This move to the currently vacant office space means we will only be spending part of the money we have already set aside in the capital plan for a new environment department HQ.”
A review of the closure of Marchbanks is now being carried out by the council.
