A man who stole his friend’s £15,000 Rolex watch and pawned it for £3,500 has been ordered to repay the money to the shop.
Christopher Auld, 26, of Fairbairn Street, Dundee, admitted stealing the watch on December 5 at Unicorn Court.
Depute fiscal Beverley Adam told Dundee Sheriff Court that Auld and a friend had been out drinking and went back to the friend’s house.
The householder had taken off his watch and laid it down. When Auld left, the man noticed his watch was missing. The next day he told his boss, who phoned Auld. He admitted he had taken the watch and pawned it.
Ms Adam told the court: “The watch was originally valued at £15,000.”
Solicitor John Boyle said of his client: “He has certain health difficulties and hadn’t taken his medication that day.
“He pawned the watch for £3,500 and has spent £2,500 of it, but he’s still got £1,000 left and can pay that sum immediately.
“He has been suspended from his job at the moment and he’s not sure if he will be allowed to return to his employment as a domestic assistant.”
Sheriff Kenneth McGowan allowed repayment at £30 a month to H&T Pawnbrokers, Seagate.
