Shop warned for selling whisky meant for export By Andrew Argo October 26 2013, 9:06am October 26 2013, 9:06am Share Shop warned for selling whisky meant for export Share via Facebook Twitter Linkedin Whatsapp Messenger Email Post link https://www.thecourier.co.uk/news/dundee/264722/shop-warned-for-selling-whisky-meant-for-export/ Copy Link A Dundee off-sales shop has been given a written warning for selling whisky intended for the export market. The Princes Street Convenience Store was found to have a stock of High Commissioner with fake duty-paid labels. The licensing board was told the whisky was genuine, but it was intended for sale abroad and not for inside the UK where duty had to be paid. A total of 23 bottles were involved and they should have netted excise duty of £181.70. An agent for proprietor Abdul Gafar said he apologised for the breach, which he put down to being foolish rather than a deliberate attempt to deceive. The whisky had been bought at a slightly reduced price from a convenience store elsewhere in Dundee which was closing down. The labels on the bottles appeared to be genuine and he did not realise they were fake. The agent said it was the only blemish on her client’s record and she appealed for leniency.
