Special surveying equipment is to be used to find out if repairs are needed to the road surface of the Tay Road Bridge.
Two night-time closures of the bridge are taking place next week to allow the ground-penetrating radar to checks for cracks.
The bridge road, the A92, will be shut between 1am and 4am next Thursday and Friday for the surveys to be carried out.
Bridge manager Iain Mackinnon said: “Radar surveys used to be unusual but it is a technique that is becoming more and more common.
“The bridge has the original surfacing on the deck from 1966, which is an unusual feature.
“We are considering resurfacing options. This survey is a means of looking at the bridge with minimal destruction. We will examine the condition of the concrete deck.
“It’s carried out by a vehicle carrying antennas and scanners, to create a 3D picture. The point of the survey is to see whether we need to remove all of the surfacing or just some of it.”
