A classic Amercian car and piece of TV history is to go under the hammer in Dundee.
The 1973 Ford Lincoln Continental Mk IV, made famous through TV show Starsky and Hutch, will be offered for auction on Tuesday with an estimated selling price of £3,000 to £4,000.
First registered in 1973 to a company Jerrys Shoes Alhambra Inc. Alhambra California, the car was imported to the UK in 1978 and registered in 1979, BSR 895V, it has been with the same owner since.
However, now Dundee auctioneer Curr and Dewar has been instructed to sell the vintage vehicle by a local executry.
Steven Dewar said: “The car has a seven litre petrol engine and is the epitome of a Starsky and Hutch programme from that era. The car looks to be in good condition with very clean body work. It has been off the road and garaged for about the last 10 years, has no current MOT and is registered SORN.
“We are expecting a very busy and interesting auction as we will also be recording with BBC 2 Antiques Road trip, with the specialists to be David Harper and Christina Trevanion.”
The Courier’s motoring editor Jack McKeown gave his opinion and said: “When it first came out in the early 1970s the Lincoln Continental was one of the most successful American luxury cars.
“British television viewers will recognise the model from the US police drama Starsky and Hutch. The car might need some tender loving care before she’s roadworthy once more, but whoever restores her will have one of the most head-turning cars in their area.
“They may not want to drive it far, however with a seven litre engine fuel economy will not be high.”
Also in the auction is a collection of antique Scottish and English coins with examples dating from the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
Coins of note include an Edward VI shilling dating from 1551 to 1553, a 1631 patagon, 1716 guineas, a 1557 Mary Queen of Scots testoon, a 1705 Scottish Queen Anne Five shilling, a Charles I turner circa 1629, crowns dating from 1666 to 1937 and half crowns dating from 1689 to 1834.
Items in the auction can be previewed on Monday from 9am to 7pm.
