Plan for 110ft wind turbine on Dundee’s outskirts

A 110-foot wind turbine could be built on the northern outskirts of Dundee, if a planning application is approved.

The chosen site is a disused storage yard by Emmock Road, about 1.4km north of the Kirkton and Trottick areas of the city and close to Strathmartine Hospital and Baldovan House.

The application to Angus Council has come from Ray Kelly of Raynor Group in Bridgefoot.

In a supporting statement his agents, McGill, said, “It is felt the chosen location would have minimal impact on the landscape whilst being able to produce a suitable level of energy to justify the viability of the proposal.”

The land to the south drops away sharply, meaning any views from Dundee would be blocked by the brow of the hill and the dense woodland in front of the turbine.

The turbine would have a maximum capacity of 50 kilowatts and would be expected to produce 218,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year over its expected 20- to 25-year operational lifespan.

Feeding that into the National Grid would reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 124 tonnes per year, McGill said.
