Reward of £1000 to help solve Audio Visual Solutions break-in mystery

A frustrated Dundee retailer has offered a £1000 cash reward for information that helps track down the £15,000 worth of stock stolen at the weekend.

Arthur Downie, the owner of Audio Visual Solutions in Bellfield Street, Hawkhill, said he was “angry and frustrated” with the theft and desperate to know how the robbers entered the premises without breaking a window or forcing a door.

For seven years Mr Downie (66) has run the electrical outlet that specialises in audiovisual sales and installations, without a single break-in.

However, on Monday the businessman was stunned when he entered the shop to find a 46-inch Samsung plasma television worth £2500 had been stolen along with an amplifier, headphones, radio mikes and a host of electronic accessories.

He said the reward money was a price worth paying to discover how the thieves entered the building.

“There are four keys to the shop which are with four trusted members of staff,” Mr Downie said.

“The door lock has not been forced and it looks as if a key has been used to open it.”No insurance claimHe added, “When the police were round I asked them if it could be picked but he said that in Dundee most people would just smash the window in and enter that way.

“So I need to know what has gone on here.”

The shop also has an intruder alarm but the thieves tampered with the fuse box, disarming it.

They then set about stealing high-value items including an office laptop and cash from the till.

However, in doing so they revealed that the till was opened at 6.12pm on Sunday telling investigators exactly when the raid took place.

Mr Downie said, “Because there was no forced entry I can’t claim from the insurance.

“But what is really making me upset is that I don’t know how they got in here.”

He added, “I have had all the locks changed but am still thinking can they get back in?”

Anyone with information that can help the investigation should contact police on 0300 111 22 22 or Mr Downie directly on 01382 206106.
