Young friends of a Dundee six-year-old with an incurable brain tumour have raised more than £300 to help send her on her dream holiday.
Gowriehill Primary School pupil Madison Barclay is the only child in the UK to suffer a rare brain stem tumour which parents Lyndzay Scott and Robert Barclay have been told is inoperable.
Determined to ensure she lives every day to the full, friends have set up a Facebook appeal (link) in the hope she will achieve her dream to travel to the States to meet Mickey Mouse.
Madison’s plight has touched the hearts of people all over the city and none more than Drew Wighton (9) and Ryan MacLeod (12).
After learning of the little girl’s illness, they resolved to become involved in the fundraising campaign and organised a charity football match on Monday with a very special mascot Madison herself.
“We did it because we just don’t think it’s fair that she’s so ill,” said Drew, of Greenlee Drive. “Her gran lives in our street and we wanted to do something for Madison.
“We have been going round doors asking if anyone wants to buy raffle tickets. All the neighbours have been great and everyone said yes,” added the Ancrum Road Primary School pupil.
He and Ryan, who is about to start at Menzieshill High School, soon persuaded their friends and neighbours to get behind their plans.
“They just kind of took it on board and organised it all themselves,” said Drew’s proud mum Karen. “The idea came from them and they had already raised £120 before the match even started. It’s great.”
