‘Our young people will be inspired’ World Schools Debating Championship under way in Dundee

This week sees Dundee play host to a truly global gathering for the World Schools Debating Championship 2011.
Running until Friday, teams representing 48 nations will participate in debates covering a multitude of social, political and moral issues.
Dundee joins a prestigious list of host cities that includes Athens, Calgary, Seoul and Washington DC.
Dundee City Council education convener Liz Fordyce said: “There is a long tradition of debating in Dundee City Council schools and our young people will be inspired by seeing the World Schools Debating Championship take place in their secondary schools.”
Team Scotland members were selected in April and have been holding regular training sessions. The team members are Calum Worsley and Ruth Cameron from Dollar Academy, Charlie Holmes and Alfie Hinchcliffe from George Heriot’s School and David McCreath from Aberdeen Grammar School.You can follow progress at www.schoolsdebate.com
