A Lochee house fire that left a pensioner fighting for her life was started by an electrical fault, it has been revealed.
Agnes Donaldson (75) remains in a critical but stable condition in Ninewells Hospital after being carried out of her Foggyley Gardens home on Saturday night.
She suffered from severe smoke inhalation as a result of the blaze, which started in the living room of the end terrace property.
With a joint investigation having been conducted by Tayside Police and Tayside Fire and Rescue Service, it is thought that a faulty electrical appliance was the source of the fire.
Rab Middlemiss, Tayside Fire and Rescue group manager, said there were no suspicious circumstances regarding the incident.
He added: ”There are further tests that need to be carried out and we have taken electrical appliances away to determine which one caused the fire.”
Mr Middlemiss confirmed the property had been hardwired with smoke alarms on both floors.
He continued: ”These notify community alarms. Between that and an almost simultaneous call from a member of the public, we were there very quickly.”
Firefighters broke down the front door to get into the smoke-filled property.
Mrs Donaldson is thought to have been alone at the time of the blaze, with husband Harold said to have been out of the house.
Mrs Donaldson received first aid before being taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital, where she remains.
