Dundee car fraud trial adjourned until April

Dundee car fraud trial adjourned until April

A man and woman will stand trial at Dundee Sheriff Court later this year accused of forming a fraudulent insurance scheme.

Paul Martin (52) and Theresa Noble (47), both Arklay Terrace, deny making insurance claims against companies including Sheila’s Wheels in respect of a car and its contents.

They also deny that, on January 18, at Silver Button Yard, they drove the car to Caird Park, attempted to set fire to it, pretended to police and insurance companies that it was stolen and obtained money by fraud.

They also deny that, between January 18 and February 6 at Silver Button Yard, they falsely represented to two constables and Detective Sergeant Marcus Lorente that the car had been stolen, causing the officers to devote their time to an investigation which deprived the public of their services.

Agents for Martin and Noble maintained their not guilty pleas on Wednesday, but said they were not prepared for trial as the Crown had not disclosed vital evidence.

Depute fiscal Gillian Sim made a motion to adjourn the trial.

Sheriff George Way set a fresh trial diet for April 19 with a further intermediate hearing on April 4.
