Sending a Dundee youth to detention, a sheriff warned the 17-year-old that he had started off by simply being anti-social but now he had become dangerous.
Daniel Luigi Ferrara, Polmont Young Offenders Institution, previously admitted on indictment that on May 20 in Ward Road, he assaulted Ross Caithness, chased him and struck him repeatedly on the head with a hammer to his injury; while on bail.
The court previously heard that the victim had been out for the evening with friends.
They had left the pub in North Lindsay Street to go to the bank.
They walked past Ferrara’s home address and the accused hung out of the window and shouted abuse at Mr Caithness.
Mr Caithness simply ignored this, however, Ferrara ran out of his home accompanied by another male, pulled a hammer from his pocket and began to strike Mr Caithness on the head with it.
Ferrara’s companion told him to come back into the building but Ferrara continued to pursue the victim.
The whole incident was captured on CCTV.
The victim sustained a 7mm laceration on the top of his head which required to be glued.
Sheriff Alistair Duff yesterday sentenced Ferrara to 12 months’ detention plus a six-month supervised release order.
