Newport folk must find a new way home after closure of A92 junctions
ByNews reporter
Many motorists travelling to and from Newport have had to change their routes after the controversial closure of two A92 junctions.
Right turns at the junctions at Station Brae and Inverdovat are now banned.
Bear Scotland has closed the two central reservations to prevent vehicles from crossing the busy dual carriageway.
The closure of the junctions were fought by many in Newport and the surrounding area, who feared that traffic which normally uses Station Brae would instead go past the primary school on Cupar Road to enter the town.
However, following a public local inquiry, Scottish ministers decided last March that sealing off the gaps between the bridge and Forgan roundabout would make the stretch of road safer.
While they conceded that neither junction had a high accident rate, they ruled there was potential for serious incidents arising from right turns across opposing, often high-speed, traffic.
The closure will mean motorists will have to enter Newport at the bridge roundabout or travel further south to the Forgan roundabout and use Cupar Road.
Inverdovat junction is mainly used by agricultural vehicles.
