Flowers stolen from a Glenrothes park were returned after being found by police during a drugs raid.
The plants were taken from flower beds at Riverside Park some time between Thursday night and Friday morning.
They were recovered later on the Friday and Fife Council staff were able to replant them.
Council area services manager Kevin Sayer said it was an unusual case.
“The police recovered the plants and then photographed them for evidence,” he said. “They were returned to the parks guys on Friday. Because they were returned quickly they were still fresh, so we managed to recover them.
“This happened last year but we weren’t able to recover the plants.
“When plants have gone missing before we have wondered about them being sold at car boot sales or sold though other means.”
It is not known where the drugs raid was carried out or if any illegal substances were seized. Fife Constabulary made no comment.
Flower displays are maintained by volunteers, the Take a Pride in Glenrothes partnership, and the council.
Mr Sayer said the beds were an important factor in the Britain in Bloom campaign. He added, “We’ve had to allocate time for a crew to plant that out again. It also has an impact on the folk who give their time voluntarily.”
