A Dalgety Bay good samaritan is appealing for help after she discovered a historic medal in her donation can.
May Freeman was collecting money for Motor Neurone Disease Scotland at the Tesco in Dalgety Bay and discovered when the money was counted that someone had slipped a Royal Life Saving Society Award of Merit into her collection.
The medal looks like a coin and dates back to 1920.
A name, WE Tucker, can still be read faintly on the back and May is appealing for descendants to get in touch with The Courier.
She has already contacted the Royal Life Saving Society to track down the medal’s owner but its records only go back 10 years.
May said: “It’s like a coin, I think someone dropped it in by mistake.
“There was a Tucker in Aberdour but that was a long time and I think he has died now.
“I’d really like to find the owners and give them the medal back, it was awarded in 1920 according to the back and probably has a lot of value to somebody.”
The Royal Life Saving Society was founded in 1891 and still trains nine out of 10 lifeguards.
