Children were injured and left shaken when a branch smashed through the window of a school bus.
The terrifying incident happened at the gates of Kirkcaldy High School, as the double decker departed to take pupils home this afternoon.
One or two sustained minor cuts and bruises and were treated at the scene.
Youngsters were said to have been upset by the drama, as they made their way home for the weekend.
Around 40 pupils were on the Stagecoach bus when the top window caved in.
An overhanging branch struck the vehicle at around 3.40pm when the driver pulled into the side of the road in Dunnikier Way.
School rector Derek Allan said all pupils were safe but described it as a very serious incident and said an investigation would be launched.
He said: “Unfortunately, a school bus was involved in a minor accident on Dunnikier Way at 3.40pm today, close to Kirkcaldy High School.
“I can reassure parents and local people that all the pupils involved are safe.
“One or two pupils suffered minor cuts and bruises and they were attended to by the first aider in school.
“Staff spent time with pupils to ensure that they were fit and well before resuming their journey in replacement transport.
“We are treating this accident very seriously, and a full investigation will follow.”
A replacement bus arrived 20 minutes later to take pupils home and parents and carers were contacted and informed of the accident.
