A Kirkcaldy father has described the moment he heard that his son had been seriously injured at a town beauty spot.
Gary King, 38, said local youngsters got “a hell of a fright” when his son ruptured his spleen and broke his pelvis after falling from Ravenscraig Castle last weekend.
Ethan, 14, is believed to have fallen around 30 feet after climbing a wall at the historic site.
The Kirkcaldy High School pupil was one of dozens of young people said to have congregated at the area.
With his son still in the Victoria Hospital almost a week after the accident, Mr King said that he was still trying to piece together events.
“We’re still not exactly sure about what happened,” he told The Courier.“We’ve been getting a lot of information from different people.
“I was at the Fife Flyers ice hockey and one of Ethan’s friends had called to say he had fallen and had hurt his leg,” he said.
“They then phoned back to say that Ethan couldn’t walk, and I said to call an ambulance. When I arrived he was just being put in the back.”
Though historically a popular spot with young people, local police have confirmed a recent spike in youths congregating at Ravenscraig Castle.
It is believed that Ethan had been climbing a wall within the building when he fell.
Around 100 youngsters are thought to have been present at the time of the incident, with many consuming alcohol a problem that local police say they will tackle with an increased presence this weekend.
Sergeant Jimmy Adamson from Kirkcaldy Police Station said: “Anti-social behaviour is an issue that our communities in Kirkcaldy and Burntisland have identified as requiring urgent police attention and we are responding accordingly.
“Local officers will be very visible within these regions and those responsible for the type of incidents that have recently been reported should be left in no doubt that their unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated.
“I would ask that parents assist us in our efforts by ensuring they know the whereabouts of their children and discourage them from participating in antisocial behaviour and other such offences”.
