Luxurious Hamilton Grand apartments slow to sell

The building has provided the backdrop to countless rounds of golf at the Old Course, including this one by former US President Bill Clinton.
The building has provided the backdrop to countless rounds of golf at the Old Course, including this one by former US President Bill Clinton.

It is regarded as one of the golfing world’s most coveted addresses with panoramic views of the Old Course, medieval ruins and the North Sea.

However, The Courier can reveal that around half of the multi-million-pound luxury apartments at the iconic Hamilton Grand in St Andrews are still up for grabs eight months after the luxury development opened.

The 26 residencies at the property were unveiled last July after a three-year refurbishment programme by Old Course Hotel owner Kohler Co.

A spokesman for the Hamilton Grand told The Courier: “The position regarding sales remains half of the residencies are sold or under contract.

“Naturally, owners’ details are not disclosed but I know owners are from the UK, continental Europe, the USA, the UAE and the Far East.

“As far as ongoing inquiries are concerned, we are covering every territory where golf is of major interest, as understandably those interested in buying a unique residency at Hamilton Grand are all lovers of the game.

“The apartments range in price from £1.2 million to £7.6m.”

The spokesman said in recent weeks the resort’s team have attended events in Sweden, China and Hong Kong.

He added: “The reputation of the development and its association with the hotel and St Andrews are helping to drive interest and business across the resort.

“The hotel has just been recognised as the most popular hotel at the Guangzhou International Travel Fair in China again, testament to the spreading appeal.”

Helen Parker, director of resort sales, marketing and real estate, said: “We are very happy with the progress made on sales of residencies at Hamilton Grand.

“We have owners who are moving into the property this spring and summer.

“Over the coming weeks and months, our sales team will be meeting with prospective buyers both at home and abroad.”

The property, built more than a century ago by Thomas Hamilton, has served as a hotel, RAF base and university halls.
